The Espoonlahti tunnels and stations - LU24 - form a part of the second stage of the construction of the Länsimetra (Western Metro), which will connect the capital of Helsinki with the city of Espoo over a total length of 7 kilometers, with 5 underground stations.

Characteristics
The LU24 - Espoonlahti section, which was tunneled using the Drill & Blast method in hard granite rocks, includes a single-space metro station and two single-track tunnels with a total length of 2,984 m. The construction also included tunneling of seven inter-tunnel connections and two technological chambers with ventilation shafts.

Exceptional Nature of Project
The most challenging part of the project was the excavation of the station under the Lippulaiva shopping center and blasting works in densely populated areas, along with a high volume of grouting work.
