- 496 536 m3Total volume of excavated rock
- 81,5 m2Area of standard tube excavation without bottom arch
Unique features of the building
The construction of the third longest motorway tunnel in Slovakia was complicated by geotechnical conditions that differed from the original assumption, personnel problems associated with the coronavirus crisis, and legislative changes in relation to the design and assurance of fire safety in tunnels. In spite of this, tunnellers managed to work to astonishing levels, when they were able to blast 500 m of tunnel per month – an average of 125 m at each face. The work that Metrostav provided also took in the construction of a new building for the Prešov Highway Administration and Maintenance Centre and a technological centre for the tunnel.
