Characteristics
Comprehensive modernisation of the original listed building—the roofing over the platforms at Prague’s main railway station. The builders repaired and exchanged damaged parts of its steel structure, cleaned it of old paint and gave it a three-layer anti-corrosion coat, reconditioned and reglazed all the skylights and laid new roofing.
Exceptional Nature of Project
In order to minimise the number of interruptions, the project was divided into many stages and took almost 32 months. The hall’s load-bearing structures were much more badly damaged than the project anticipated. Overall, it was necessary to repair or exchange about 416 tons of steel structures. The builders had to consult heritage protection authorities and they had all work approved by such authorities. They worked only with a partial limitation on the railway station’s operations, close to platforms full of people at the busiest railway station in the Czech Republic.
