"Our efforts culminated with the final launch, having started with production in Horní Počernice, continuing with assembly here in Pirna, and coming to a close with launches that met with considerable public interest. The final launch was far from routine, in that the cramped conditions of the construction site meant we had to continuously handle the launching nose to copy the shape of the terrain beyond the abutment. We lifted the launching nose, which was suspended from hydraulics the whole time, every 4 m, although we preferred mechanical securing with pins in previous launches. Given that it was necessary to fully man all the abutments, we needed 65 workers for the launch," said Marek Foglar, Construction Director at Metrostav.
By the end of this year, builders will lower the steel structure at a height of 70 m by 1.5 m on to the pillar heads and join these to them using reinforced concrete ramps. This will be followed by concreting the deck and completion work.
The bridge over the valley of Gottleuba Stream (Rybný potok in the Czech Republic) stands at a height of 70 metres and is 916 metres long, connecting roads 172 from Bad Schandau and 172 a, which acts as a feeder to the A17 motorway. When completed, it really will be something to see, an architectural gem that stands out for its unusually slim construction, this in spite of the fact that a total of seven thousand tons of structural steel and twelve thousand cubic metres of concrete will have been used in construction.
The project should be completed at the end of 2026.
